Originally designed by renowned garden designer Penelope Hobhouse, this garden combines the best of the English border tradition with many native North American plants. A serpentine yew hedge runs the length of the border, providing both a backdrop to the plants and “living sculpture” as it gradually increases in heights from one end to the other. Trees, shrubs, roses, vines, perennials, annuals, and bulbs all rub shoulders together in a riotous display of color from early spring until snowfall. Plants of all shapes and sizes, from scabiosa to daylily to eupatorium, each contribute to the changing beauty of this garden. This garden is the perfect place to take a stroll, rest on a bench, and take time to smell the flowers.
