Exploring Meijer Gardens

Tours, programs and interactive activities are available for visitors throughout the year. Check the digital display sign at the admissions desk when you arrive for the day’s activities.
Adult group tours provide a variety of options for groups of ten or more people. From indoor guided tours to narrated tram tours, your experience will be unforgettable.
Venture out to Michigan’s Farm Garden to learn about family farms in the 1930s, and hear comments from Fred and Lena Meijer about their childhood experiences growing up on farms.
Audio tour rental is available in the Peter M. Wege Library—free to members, $1 to non-members. Tour stops are designated along the paths and trails on title and artist signs, indicated with this symbol.
Discovery carts are made available periodically so that visitors can handle sculptors’ tools and materials, learn about plants in new ways and have hands-on experiences.
“Drop-in” guided tours are informal presentations incorporating general overviews of exhibitions and collections, fun factoids, interesting questions and one-on-one dialogue. Ask at the admissions desk for a schedule.
Interactive activities for Christmas and Holiday Traditions Around the World, Butterflies are Blooming, Lena Meijer Children’s Garden and Michigan’s Farm Garden enable visitors to engage in innovative approaches to education. From building giant, three-dimensional butterflies to digging for fossils in the rock quarry, kids and adults alike will discover new ways to learn.
Printed looking guides lead visitors through changing exhibitions with thought-provoking questions, exhibition overviews and specific things to find.
Nine plant shows scheduled throughout the year present a comprehensive look at a variety of plants from roses to orchids to bonsai. These shows provide inspiration and enable visitors to get their questions answered by experts. 2010 Plant Shows
Public programs for sculpture exhibitions assist visitors in understanding content and ideas through lectures, gallery walks, family activities, DVDs and demonstrations. Free with admission. Check at the admissions desk for offerings.
School Field Trips provide a variety of student-friendly options in a wide range of subject areas.
Narrated tram tours of the sculpture park and Michigan’s Farm Garden are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Tram tours are weather dependent and the schedule changes seasonally. A special kids’ tram tour is also available in the summer and fall. Costs for all tram tours are $3 for adults and $1 for kids 12 and younger. Call 957-1580 for the daily schedule.
